A trough of low pressure near the Texas-Mexico border is producing widespread disorganized showers and thunderstorms. This system is expected to move over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico, where conditions may support the development of a tropical storm by late Tuesday or Wednesday. Regardless of whether it becomes a tropical cyclone, the system is forecast to bring significant rainfall to parts of southern and eastern Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Rainfall totals could exceed 15 inches in isolated areas, with widespread flash flooding, urban flooding, and river flooding anticipated. Gusty winds and coastal flooding are also possible along the northwestern Gulf Coast.

Louisiana and Mississippi could see an additional 4-6 inches of rain through Friday, with some areas exceeding 10 inches by Saturday morning. Coastal flooding and gusty winds may also impact the region.
